Hi my name is David Drummond but you can call me COACHD. In 1976 one Saturday afternoon when I was 11 years old my Dad (Laurie Drummond) took me to the TocH Harrier Club in Christchurch. The rest is history as I was hooked on running and have been competing ever since.
Over the past 30 years I have competed with successful results on the track, cross country and road over a variety of distances.
My first coach was my Dad and I have also had coaching from Bob Greive, Bill Rodger and Les Wilson. All of these coaches have advised and guided me to be the best athlete that I could be.
Recently I have been self coached and are a strong believer in the late Arthur Lydiards principles of coaching.
My first experience of coaching was when I met my wife to be Jenny in 1985. I trained her to make National 800m/1500m finals and PBs of 2.18 for 800m and 4.39 for 1500m.
In 2003 I decided it was time to put my energies into coaching young athletes and I started training a small group 3 nights a week at the Pakuranga Club. I now have a squad of over 20 athletes who are all on training programs. Many of these young athletes are winning titles and medals at championship meets and I'm sure they have the potenial to be Champion athletes in the future.
